History

History

Early Days

Blacklist International was formed following the acquisition of Tier One Entertainment of the EVOS Esports Philippines roster during the offseason of MPL Philippines Season 4. The early roster of Blacklist International included current players such as Edward Jay "EDWARD" Dapadap and RSG Philippines' mid-laner Arvie Calderon "Aqua" Antonio and veteran players such as Hon Da, Kil Ler, Riddler and player-turned-coach Dexter Louise "Dex Star" Alaba. The team participated as one of the ten teams in MPL Philippines Season 5. The team finished 5th-6th after losing 2-0 to Execration.

Arrival of Kairi

The team released Hon Da and Riddler during the offseason for MPL Philippines Season 6. During the offseason, the team signed Mark "ESON" Gerardo who previously played for Cignal Ultra who won the Season 2 title and rookie FULLCLIP (later known as Kairi). FULLCLIP was a close friend to Dapadap from Bataan. The team would finish third in the group stages with a 7-6 record but was defeated in five games by Smart Omega in a single-elimination bracket.

Kairi's departure, Arrival of the VEEWISE duo

ONIC Philippines' Johnmar "OhMyV33Nus" Villaluna and Daneirie James "Wise" Del Rosario were orchestrated to be keystone members of a trade with Blacklist International during the offseason. Villaluna and Del Rosario were traded as a duo to Blacklist International in exchange for Rayosdelsol. The speculation that a trade actually occurred was confirmed by Villaluna and Del Rosario in a podcast episode where they expressed Rayosdelsol's intentions of leaving Blacklist and joining ONIC.

Villaluna and Del Rosario were immediately put into the starting lineup alongside Dapadap after the departure of Antonio from the roster. During Season 7, Blacklist topped the group stage going 12-1 in the regular season with the only lost being to Bren Esports during Week 5. Blacklist would defeat Bren in the upper-bracket semifinals in a 3-2 series after previously going up 2-0. After a 3-1 victory over Aura Philippines, Blacklist advanced to its first Grand Finals appearance since the organization was established, solidifying their slot for the annual Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup (MSC 2021). The team would go down in a 3-1 deficit against Execration in the Grand Finals but came back to win the title in 7 games, winning the first of three championships of the team.

In MSC 2021, Blacklist defeated Indonesian powerhouses EVOS Legends and Bigetron Alpha to mark the first Filipino vs. Filipino grand finals in a international tournament, giving a rematch of the Season 7 Grand Finals between the team and Execration. However, Execration won MSC 2021, defeating Blacklist 4-1.

Arrival of Imam, Back-to-back championship, M3 Title

The team signed Smart Omega Jungler-turned-flex player Salic "Hadji" Imam during the offseason of MPL Philippines Season 8. Certain rumors began circulating that Imam would replace Del Rosario as the starting Jungler for the team, however, Tryke Gutierrez, the CEO of Tier One Entertainment, stepped in and gave the ultimatum to let Del Rosario know that he would remain as the team's starting Jungler no matter what. Gerardo would be benched and Imam would start as the Mid-Laner for the team.

Blacklist went 13-1 in the regular season, only losing one game to ONIC Philippines with Rayosdelsol teaming up with Allen "Baloyskie" Baloy and Gerald "Dlar" Trinchera in the roster. Blacklist would suffer a 3-1 defeat against Smart Omega following the series suspension for gold laner Kiel Calvin "OHEB" Soriano due to him putting his Middle finger up during a livestream to show his competitiveness against his opponent. Soriano apologized publicly and cited that his suspension affected the team, making them lose the first series.

Blacklist swept Nexplay EVOS in the lower-bracket knockouts and returned a 3-1 series victory over Smart Omega to advance to their second-consecutive Grand Finals appearance against ONIC Philippines. After a 1-1 series being tied up, Blacklist became the second organization in MPL history to win back-to-back titles, the first being Sunsparks for Season 4 and 5. Blacklist would secure an appearance to the MLBB M3 World championships in Singapore alongside ONIC.

Blacklist topped the Group Stage in M3 and were title-contenders in M3. However, the team fell to a 3-2 defeat in the upper-bracket first round to North American representatives BloodThirstyKings (BTK) led by Michael "MobaZane" Cosgun. Blacklist eliminated Indonesian champions ONIC Esports in the lower-bracket second round knockouts and proceeded to face BTK in the lower-bracket finals after defeating Brazil's Keyd Stars, Indonesia's RRQ Hoshi, and Singapore's EVOS Esports SG. The team defeated BTK in a 3-1 series that sent a rematch between Blacklist and ONIC Philippines in the Grand Finals, making M3 the first of two Filipino vs. Filipino Grand Finales and the second of four series where a Filipino team has qualified in the Finals. Blacklist would win the M3 World championships in a 4-0 sweep against ONIC Philippines, making the organization the second Filipino MLBB World champions after Bren.

VEEWISE first season break, Domestic struggle, Resurgence

The organization announced on behalf of Villaluna and Del Rosario that the duo would be taking a break for MPL Philippines Season 9. The team would sign rookie Jungler Kent "KEVIER" Lopez to the roster but the team struggled during Season 9 due to the absence of the VeeWise duo despite having the services of Dapadap, Soriano and Imam. After a 2-0 defeat from Smart Omega, the team was eliminated from playoff contention for Season 9.

Villaluna and Del Rosario would return for Season 10 for a potential M4 title run. The team finished with a 9-5 record, finishing as the first seed after defeating ECHO Philippines, 2-0 in their final matchup. The team beat Bren in the first round of the upper-bracket in 5 games and defeated ECHO 3-0 in the upper bracket finals that gave Blacklist its second world championship appearance. After trading games in the Grand Finals, Blacklist would win the organization's third MPL trophy after defeating ECHO's "Superteam" which had the services of Nepomuceno, Cabrera and Vinuya, 4-2 in the Grand Finals.

The team advanced to the M4 World Championships as the title-contenders and the reigning MLBB World Champions. After finishing second in the Group Stage, Blacklist International 3-1 Brazilian team RRQ Akira and 3-2 sister team RRQ Hoshi in the Upper Bracket Semis which broke the World Championship viewer records after reaching 4.2 million peak viewers. After a nail-biting 3-2 series in the Upper-Bracket Finals, Blacklist would face a rematch with ECHO Philippines in the Grand Finals where the team fell in 4 games.

VEEWISE second season break, Arrival of Castillo, International shortcomings

Blacklist International signed Renejay "RENEJAY" Barcase from Nexplay EVOS (now Minana EVOS) during the offseason of MPL Philippines Season 11. Alongside Barcase, the team signed Jon Redick "Super Red" Bordeos and Kenneth "Yue" Tadeo following Soriano's relegation to the Mobile Legends: Development League Roster of Blacklist. Both Barcase and Bordeos played in certain amounts of games for the team however, majority of the games were played by the main-five of the team which included Villaluna, Dapadap, Del Rosario, Imam and Soriano.

In Season 11, the team seeded third with an 8-6 record. The team advanced to their second-consecutive finals in the last four of five seasons of MPL Philippines, the first team to ever do so since Bren Esports. However, the team would fall in a 4-0 sweep against M4 World Champions ECHO, making the series the second 4-0 sweep for the organization by the same team. Both teams qualified for MSC 2023 as the Philippines' representatives for the international trophy.

MSC 2023 followed a single-elimination bracket. Blacklist International defeated hometown team BURN x FLASH to advance to the Grand Finals against Indonesia's ONIC Esports who has the services of former Blacklist player Kairi Rayosdelsol. Rayosdelsol signed with the Indonesian organization during the offseason of MPL Season 10. Blacklist would lose to ONIC in 6 games, marking the first international win for a non-Filipino team in the international scene since 2019.

Season 12's offseason saw the arrival of Stephen Jasper "Sensui" Castillo from ONIC Philippines and Barcase being promoted to the starting five. Bordeos was loaned to the Red Super Giants in Malaysia while Tadeo was moved to the bench in favor of Imam. However, both Imam and Tadeo shared equal playing time during the regular season and knockout stages. The team performed similarly to its Season 11 finish, going 8-6 in the regular season. The team would find success against ECHO Philippines during the upper-bracket semis and the lower-bracket finals which saw them end ECHO's run with two, 3-1 series. Blacklist advanced to its third consecutive grand finals appearance facing against AP Bren who previously defeated the team in the upper bracket finals. The team would fall short of another MPL title, losing to AP Bren in a 4-1 series, giving AP Bren its second MPL title after six seasons.

Blacklist qualified to their third World championship series, the only former world champions to achieve such feat. Blacklist seeded second in its group and faced a 3-2 defeat to ONIC Esports in the Quarterfinals. After a 3-1 victory over Fire Flux Esports, the team defeated Indonesian runner-up Geek Fam and 3-0 Deus Vult to face off AP Bren in the lower-bracket finals, marking M5 as the first world championship series without an all Filipino clash in the Grand Finals. Blacklist would lose in 3 games against the eventual M5 champions, AP Bren in the lower-bracket finals, settling for third place.

VEEWISE third season break, Barcase season break

On 21 February 2024, Blacklist International released on their official Facebook page the final roster for MPL Philippines Season 13. The roster confirms the return of Mark Jayson "ESON" Gerardo from the MDL, however, Villaluna and Del Rosario will remain inactive for MPL Philippines Season 13 alongside Renejay "Renejay" Barcase. In a post made by the management, Barcase's inactivity is subjected to his personal decisions in tackling personal matters.

Blacklist International, alongside AP Bren were invited alongside their fellow organizations from the different Southeast Asian regions to compete in the 2024 Games of the Future tournament in Kazan, Russia.
